Preventing and Treating Wrist Tendonitis
Wrist tendonitis is a condition caused by trauma or repetitive use that results in wrist pain and swelling. Our wrist specialists offer several treatment options for wrist tendonitis.
Splinting the wrist is often the first step in treating wrist tendonitis, as resting the tendon will decrease inflammation. Applying an ice pack to the inflamed area can also provide relief. The ice cools inflammation, decreases swelling, and stimulates blood flow to the affected area. More severe cases of wrist tendonitis may require cortisone injections, which are applied directly to the inflamed area.
If other treatment methods have failed to solve the problem, the inflammatory tissue can be removed through surgery. This will eliminate pain in the wrist and create more space for tendons to move freely.
