On Oct. 25, during an Arnold High School football game, the Bay District Schools acknowledged board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Chad Mitchell for 25 years of dedicated sideline coverage. He has been a proud sideline physician for Bay County sporting events since he began to practice in the area. Dr. Mitchell sees adult and pediatric patients in Panama City at 1827 Harrison Ave. Patients in need of specialized bone, joint, muscle and sports injury care are encouraged to call 850-785-4344.

Representatives from the Bay District Schools presented Dr. Mitchell with a commemorative football to honor his commitment to sports medicine care. Celebrants included Arnold High School athletic director Ric Green, Bay District Schools athletic director Josh Laatsch, Bay District Schools superintendent Mark McQueen, HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital sports medicine coordinator Ray Morris, athletic trainer Caley Patterson, Arnold High School principal Britt Smith and Ada Mitchell, Dr. Mitchell’s wife.

"Standing on the sidelines for the past 25 years has been a privilege that’s allowed me to be a part of something bigger — supporting our young athletes and helping them stay safe and strong," said Dr. Mitchell. "Being there to help keep players in the game has been incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful for the trust and relationships we’ve built over the years, both on and off the field."

Dr. Chad Mitchell earned his medical degree at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Mitchell completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. Dr. Mitchell then chose to pursue additional specialty training and underwent fellowship training in pediatric orthopaedic surgery. He holds certification in orthopaedic surgery and a subspecialty certificate in orthopaedic sports medicine from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
